Cognitive Testing While Staying at Home
Safety and being healthy is everyone’s priority right now. The Savonix team has been doing our part to flatten the COVID-19 curve by practicing social distancing and working remotely for the past few weeks.
These are challenging times and we applaud, thank, and are humbled by the efforts of healthcare workers and all those in the community and government who work tirelessly to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
Connecting with Patients Remotely
According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), staying home whenever possible is necessary to stop the spread of the outbreak. Older adults and people of any age with serious underlying medical conditions might be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
Fortunately, with virtual entertainment, online exercise videos, texting and phone calls, we are finding innovative ways to stay healthy and connected to one other. As we also move toward telehealth in the current environment, Savonix has been a leader in this sector for many years, providing a platform for physicians to connect with patients and to test their cognitive health remotely.
The Savonix digital neuropsychologist platform is a clinically valid cognitive assessment that physicians order on a dashboard, and patients can take from home on any mobile device. Physicians can view patient results remotely on our HIPAA compliant dashboard and create individualized care plans with SavonixCare – anywhere and anytime.

Reimbursements Currently Available
Fulfilling CPT 99483 requirements (mandated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)), using SavonixCare means secure and easy reimbursements for healthcare providers.
In light of the current COVID-19 environment, CMS and the current administration have temporarily expanded Medicare coverage and payment for telemedicine in order for Medicare recipients to access a wider range of medical services without having to leave home.
Under the new 1135 waiver, “Medicare can pay for office, hospital, and other visits furnished via telehealth across the country and including in patient’s places of residence starting March 6, 2020. A range of providers, such as doctors, nurse practitioners, clinical psychologists, and licensed clinical social workers, will be able to offer telehealth to their patients. Additionally, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) is providing flexibility for healthcare providers to reduce or waive cost-sharing for telehealth visits paid by federal healthcare programs.”
Three main types of virtual services physicians and other professionals can provide to Medicare recipients are: Medicare telehealth visits, virtual check-ins and e-visits.

HIPAA Guidelines Relaxed
With the COVID-19 national emergency, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have also relaxed HIPAA guidelines for audio and video communication platforms. The current guidelines now allow physicians to use commercial applications such as Apple FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, and Facebook Messenger video chat for Medicare telehealth visits.
Our big vision is a world without dementia and the Savonix team is committed to getting us there. Even through these trying COVID-19 times, Savonix continues to empower physicians to provide better cognitive health for patients.
Caring for one another is needed now more than ever in this time of crisis. Connecting with each other has never been more important. It can be a stressful time for patients at home, especially seniors, who may feel isolated, depressed, or anxious. Fortunately, with the recent Medicare expansion for telehealth, we’re glad physicians can check-in on their patients, and continue providing cognitive health assessments remotely.
As a virtual neuropsychologist, Savonix is here to help physicians connect and care for their patients’ cognitive health no matter the distance.
